RIP Alan Kalameja

I saw in the March 8 edition of the TenLinks Daily newsletter that Alan Kalameja passed away at age 55. Condolences to his family. Alan hired me to write test questions for an AutoCAD certification exam in the early ’90s (I don’t recall which version, but probably either R12 or R13). That was one of my first real contracting jobs. Although it wasn’t very glamorous, it made me feel important, and undoubtedly helped focus my fledgling consulting business on AutoCAD. Thanks, Alan, for giving me that opportunity.

  1. Hi, Owen

I am Alan's wife, Linda. Alan passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 5, 2010 after a very courageous two year battle against Glioblastoma brain cancer. A "Homegoing Service" will be held in Alan's memory on Friday, March 26, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Charleston Southern University, Lightsey Chapel in North Charleston, SC. Alan and I would have celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary on this date.

I have set up a scholarship in Alan's memory at Trident Technical College to honor his legacy as a teacher.

I am glad you had the opportunity to work with Alan and thank you for posting this announcement.

    1. I am sorry to hear of Alan passing. I attended several of his seminars at Trident,Greenville Tech and Gwinnett Tech. He was a great educator and great resource on AutoCAD and CAD in general. I used his texts for several of my courses. God Bless you Mrs. Kalameja.

  2. Mr. Kalameja was truly one of a kind. Brilliant; yet humble, energetic; yet approachable, a genius in the ACAD arena; yet could speak easily and fundamentally to the most novice of users…I am truly better for having been taught by this man and I shall always remember him. Thank-you God for the loan of Mr. K.

  3. I worked in the robotic lab as a work study with Bob H. I was the fourth and last person to get a 2 years degree in AMT. For my three course certificate in AutoCAD I had classes in 9, 10, & 11. I was looking up Alan to ask him a question. Alan was a great guy who always took time to help me. I was sorry to hear of his passing.

  4. I attended Mr. Kalameja’s many Autodesk courses from 2004. He was a wonderful professor and a great friend. It was heartbreaking to hear of his passing, but am honored to have known Alan, and to have studied under him through Trident Tech. Though belated, I send my condolences.
